Coenzime Q10

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), also known as ubiquinone, is a naturally occurring antioxidant in the body that plays a crucial role in the production of energy within cells. CoQ10 is an essential part of the electron transport chain, a series of chemical reactions that takes place within the mitochondria.

Quick facts

Safety: CoQ10 is considered safe for most people when used as directed and within recommended dosages. Check interactions with other medicines, like blood thinners, and pay extra attention if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Always consult a medical professional before making changes to your routine.

ITP results: not included yet

(The Interventions Testing Program (ITP) is a peer-reviewed program designed to identify agents that extend lifespan and healthspan in mice)

Trials: Longevity-focused trials have yet to be published, according to our research. However, several studies of its effects on certain conditions and how it supports mitochondrial function and protecting cells from oxidative stress are available.

Overview:There are several already established features of Coenzyme Q10 that now we relate to aging illnesses, which is why it’s gained traction for its effects on cardiovascular health. This is because cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality; interventions that improve heart health are considered to have indirect implications for longevity.

CoQ10 also has a beneficial impact on neurodegenerative diseases (research has explored its neuroprotective effects, particularly in diseases like Parkinson's and Huntington's). Maintaining neurological function is crucial to healthy aging. CoQ10 also has a positive effect on metabolic disorders and supports exercise performance and muscle health, which can contribute to overall better physical health and potentially a longer lifespan.

Type of substance: Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is found in almost every cell in the body, and it is a powerful antioxidant. CoQ10 is synthesized in the human body but can also be obtained from dietary sources, including meat, fish, and nuts, although in relatively small amounts.

With age, the body's production of CoQ10 tends to decrease. There’s been increased interest in CoQ10 supplementation for its potential health benefits, particularly regarding cardiovascular health, energy levels, and aging.
